Castleford House Nursing Home is a truly imposing building, in a
magnificent setting just outside Chepstow. Originally built in 1875 as
a hunting lodge, it was substantially extended in the early 1900s, and
retains the large rooms, high ceilings, massive fireplaces and elegant
moulded cornicing of the period
Extensively refurbished in 2006, Castleford House provides the highest
standards of nursing care for the elderly. We have accommodation for 45
residents, male and female, over the age of 65, as an EMI-registered home;
we’re able to provide care for mildly confused clients.
We have 37 single and 4 double rooms, most of them ensuite and many with
terraces or views over the gardens, available on a short- or long-term
basis. The main building is fully equipped for wheelchair users, with
a passenger lift to all floors. All public areas are non-smoking.
As well as its enormous, comfortable lounges, the house has a smaller
sitting room/library for quiet reading and other activities. The extensive
garden, with its chestnut and mulberry trees and superb views over the
Wye Valley, is available to residents and their visitors at all times.
Our highly professional care staff are on hand 24 hours a day to meet
all our residents’ needs. We have an enthusiastic support team, providing
a broad programme of structured activities, including reminiscence therapy,
musical movement, flower arranging and other crafts, plus an annual fete,
which residents can join in as and when they wish. We also run our own
minibus, and organize regular outings and visits.
But for all its grand scale, Castleford House is a close-knit, welcoming
and comforting home. They really don’t build them like they used to.
